Did you know? There are 38 lakh research per minute on Google.
We us Google to find anything we want to know. But do we know the exact way to search on Google?
You face many clutters while searching on Google as
sometimes while finding a specific result, you come across so many useless
things that you do not want to show up on your page.
Instead of surfing many pages to find result according to
your choice, you can find it on first page.
Any job vacancy, email, address, phone number, you can become
a smart research with the following Seven tips.
1. 1.One of the most useful tips is to find the document or
file (i.e. PDF, WORD, EXCEL, PPT) can be reached with a single click,
Suppose you are searching for a
famous book name The Ride of a Lifetime, by Bob Iger
you will find results for Wikipedia, amazon etc. but if you add (file name:
type pdf) with your research, you will instantly get all results showing pdfs.
You can use this trick with any file type
like xlXs for excel files, ppt for PowerPoint presentations.
2. For example, you are a student and searching “How to manage time” on Google search bar. You will see a lot of different results not relating to your interest, but if you add (How to manage time+Student (+Student: will help showing the results that only includes student’s time management techniques.) so you can use + symbol to find results that specifically includes that word.
Similarly, what if you don’t want a
specific word to NOT show up in your search results.? Yes! You can use “-“in
place of + symbol. For example, you are searching for famous company “Apple” you
write Apple on Google research bar, but instead of reaching china you landed in
Washington! Strange na? but you don’t want this. So, you will write exactly
like “Apple – fruits. It will help you extract the results that includes only the
industry.
It will save you a lot of time and you will jump exactly where you want to.
1. 3.You can write a specific line on Google
and ask to search the results including the same line with same order and
spellings.
You just need to put
that line inside quotes (“”) . foe example you read a quote somewhere “The way to get started is to quit
talking and begin doing."
You exactly need to
put the same quoted text on research bar, you will find the results that only
includes this quoted line. So, in that way if you want to know that from which
book or article a certain sentence belongs, you can use this trick to find the
results you need.
Similarly, if you are searching for a job vacancy and applying for a certain position, you can write the position inside the quotes, it will help you get the desired results. This will help you finding a job or a specific person you want to contact with.
1. 4.Next tip is of next level. It happens
sometimes with every one of us that we forgot a word from a certain line of a
song, or a certain text of a quote. It is hard to remember the exact line to
search. For example, if a quote comes to our mind "The way to get _ is to
quit _ and begin doing." And we miss those words that exactly come in
spaces. We can use stars (*) there. Actually * is a wild card that allows
google to search the missing words and match them to fit in that specific line.
i.e., we will search like "The way to get * is to quit * and begin
doing." And Google will show us the original quoted text “The way to get
started is to quit talking and begin doing”, Easy na!
5.You can ask Google to search from a specific site to avoid clutter. For example, you want to search about careers from DAWN news website only, you can write site: site name (i.e., site: Dawn news careers) and here you go! You will get results only from that specific site.
1. 6.Sometimes you want to search other websites relating to our favorite site, like you want to know other online shopping sites like Amazon, you can write related: site name (i.e., related: Amazon) you will find every shopping site related to Amazon on internet like flip cart, Snapdeal etc.
1. 7.Another interesting thing you can do on Google is that if you are bored sitting on your couch and want to smile a bit. Just search for some interesting things like “visit of Oz”, you will get a surprise. Similarly search for any character from “F.R.I.E.N.D.S”. Let us give a shot, it’ll be fun.
There are obviously several other ways you can improve
your research on google, and it will surely save a plenty of time for you.
